The situation

The current and potential Sennheiser customers in the professional market had the problem that there was no easy overview of free to use frequencies for wireless devices. This makes it incredibly time consuming to correctly configure wireless microphone and in-ear monitoring systems. To know what wireless frequencies were available, a customer had to request data from several organisations, sometimes without success. From all the data that is then gathered, it would take a lot of time figuring out which free channel or frequency would be best suitable for use on a certain location.

For instance, you wouldn't want to setup a wireless connection on a local TV Channel's broadcasting frequency. Together, Sennheiser and mediaBunker brainstormed about an intuitive way to solve this problem.

Several basic initiatives on the French and U.S. markets had already been taken, but did not meet the quality or extensive information demanded by Sennheiser Benelux. To provide a good service for the Benelux area, the Frequency Finder had to be accessible in an intuitive way, both mobile and via the web. It was also important that the Frequency information was accessible offline, directly on the mobile device or by exporting a printable file for a personal computer.

Smartphone

For the smartphone users, we choose to develop a native iPhone app. Apple's iPhone platform was chosen because it gives the best user experience, most Sennheiser customers already use Apple products and it generates good PR because of the innovative character of the product.

Tablet

The tablet provides the complete user experience finding new frequencies for your Sennheiser devices. Apple's iPad platform was chosen because it gives the best user experience, most Sennheiser customers already use Apple products and it generates good PR because of the innovative character of the product.

Last but not least

Desktop

For the desktop we developed a powerful webapp 2.0 solution with HTML, PHP and Javascript, which works in every modern browser. To view data offline, a frequency search result can be exported as a PDF file.

The total package

Sennheiser collected all frequency data needed from different agencies and organisations. With all the data, including Sennheiser's products, mediaBunker developed the concept, interaction, graphical design, frequency database-backend and eventually the iPhone and Web applications. mediaBunker also provided distribution and hosting for the backend and both applications. The system has been developed, keeping in mind that Sennheiser will want to expand the Frequency Finder with more equipment, frequency data and additional countries.

The Frequency Finder is very well received by both the customers and Sennheiser. Therefore a rollout for at least Europe is already planned!
